The United Church of Canada provides financial and program support for a variety of continuing education programs. These programs are for ministry personnel and church leaders who are seeking opportunities to reflect on spirituality, faith and ministry skills for the church in the 21st century. Grant Programs for Groups
We offer small amounts of funding to groups of church leaders (clergy, lay, or mixed) who gather across congregational boundaries to reflect on issues of faith and church leadership together. Individual Continuing Education Grants A sum of money is set aside each year to help subsidize individual attendance at continuing education events across the country. Many excellent events are offered by our Education Centres and Theological Schools . Grant monies are administered by Conference Offices. To apply, please contact the office of the Conference in which you live. For a list of Conference Offices, click here . Many excellent continuing education events are listed at a multi-denominational website entitled Faith and Wisdom. Facilitated Learning Circles This exciting new program allows people across the church to reflect on issues of faith and ministry without leaving home. Groups are being organized across the church, meeting either face-to-face or by telephone conference call. Much more information about this program can be found on this website. Grants & Learning Circles relating to various conferences We are forming Learning Circles to reflect on issues arising from a variety of conferences and continuing education events the country. The United Church of Canada will provide a grant to groups of people attending these conferences, provided they agree to continue to meet for 6 months to discuss and implement learnings from the conference. Information about these grants and Learning Circles is available by clicking on the name of the Conference: NEW -- Three Learning Circles are being formed in February 2010 to meet by telephone conference call: Form your Own Learning Circle If you and at least 4 other people are attending a continuing education event together, you may qualify for a grant to become a learning circle. To be a Learning Circle groups must: - be drawn from at least 3 different pastoral charges
- covenent to meet monthly for 6-10 months for mutual learning
- designate one of their member to be the "facilitator" who will:
- convene the group
- be accountable to National Staff for it's functioning and learning
- meet by telephone conference call with other facilitators in the program every 6 - 8 weeks
